World Language Program Spreads the Joy of Hispanic Culture

Marikarmen Vazquez has been spreading the joy of Hispanic culture across her districts, making a huge impact on students in the most delightful ways!

Her visits have been filled with the warmth of the Spanish language and the richness of Puerto Rican culture, and one of the most unforgettable moments happened recently when she brought the students a taste of Puerto Rican tradition: *quesitos*!

These little treasures, a beloved snack in Puerto Rico, are more than just food—they’re a cultural experience in themselves. Imagine the irresistible aroma of freshly baked *quesitos*, made from delicate dough wrapped around a sweet cream cheese filling. It’s no surprise that every bakery in Puerto Rico is filled with the scent of these delicious treats, often enjoyed with a nice cup of milk, chocolate, or coffee. The students, eager to try something new, dove right in—and they were hooked! Each bite was a journey to Puerto Rico, and they couldn't get enough.

The classroom turned into a mini celebration of Puerto Rican heritage, where learning and fun blended perfectly.

The smiles, laughter, and eager faces reflected how powerful the experience was. Marikarmen’s dedication to bringing Hispanic culture to life has truly made a difference in the students' lives. The excitement was contagious, and it’s safe to say they will always remember this special moment of connection through food and culture.

I am so grateful that the ESU had so many specialists to work with my son, because now I know what to do to help my child with autism. The speech pathologist and occupational therapist from the ESU have allowed him to gain more than I ever expected him to. I don’t know what I would have done without them.
